another morning in the clinic 01082008

Sam asked Dr.Yong wat's wrong with the yellow stripe on my anterior teeth at the end of yesterday. I thought naively that i drank too much coffee in kmb. And, guess wat! i'm diagnosed with amelogenesis imperfecta. T.T Sounds sophisticated, but it simply means that my enamel is not strong. The calcification of my permanent teeth is affected during my childhood, maybe due to antibiotics or fever medicine. I could only say that's highly possible as i snacked on both when i was young. sick, sick kid! THat explains why all my teeth are rotten. The most important point is, it's not curable.. T.T Gosh, whY!!! why!!!

ok, enough with all the dramas. Nothing can be done with it, although my heart and mind was broken when Sam said my pre-molars might had gone bad as well.. (damn it, after all the flossing, teeth-brushing and listerine, still gone bad.. damn it!!) Dear God, please help me with my oral health, bless me with good, healthy teeth and gum. at least the remaining good ones will not go bad... amen!

This morning is for pregnant ladies check-ups and also some appointments. Dr.Yong taught us that, in the first and last 3 months of pregnancy, extraction is not encouraged as it is thought to affect the fetus (but in very very serious case i.e. caries that cause infection, extraction will still be done). Extraction in the last trimester might result in low birth weight and premature babies. wow, so serious kah? just extraction only wo... And, LA which accidentally shot into blood streams might cause the fetus to shrink and cause abortion.

Dr.Grace got a patient with dry socket. Dry socket, according to Dr.Yong, is the case where the hole in the gum won't heal up after an extraction. It's more common for molar or third molars extraction. The cause is unknown as no infection is detected. The patient complaint that the gum wont heal up after he extracted 23. Dr.YOng mentioned that it can be healed by creating a blood clot or use medicine specially designed for such case, called AVOGIL. Dr.Grace cleaned the hole and tried to get all the sisa-sisa makanan out of the hole to avoid infection. Then she stuffed the medicine in. Interesting~

Sam and I were really hungry as we din eat any breakfast this morning. But we remained watching to the last patient and really thankful that we did. The last patient was Dr.Yong's. Her teeth was quite bad and he did few fillings. Her 26 need to be extracted as the caries was too bad. Dr.Yong need to do a small surgery as he can't grip the tooth as there's none left on the surface of the gum. The whole scene is quite bloody and rough. He drilled to seperate the long palatal root from the buccal roots. He then tried to korek out the tooth with all his might. Many staff came to watch (Dr. Grace too)... after it's done, Dr.Yong said he would cry if he failed to take it out.. hahahah!

We then thanked Dr.Yong for his guidance and friendliness as it will be our last session. Dr.Asma seemed not very please with us in the clinic again this morning as Dr.Chu only allowed one morning. We din wanna trouble Sister, so, this would be it.

In the afternoon, i slept like a pig in the room cos the heat is killing me. And also, i hadn't woke up so early (7:30am) for 2 days consecutively and stand for the whole day. Aww, feel so tired and sick after taking such a long nap~ more like hibernate..

Really thank god for giving us the chance to see how it's like working in a government clinic. At least something meaningful over the long holiday. 1and a half month to go before going back again. must use the time wisely. aja aja fighting! ;)
